5Easy to use  Jul 28, 2009 By Scott Richardson
I've had my Loop Station for a couple years and I still feel like there's plenty I don't know about it (of course I never read the manual!). What I do know, though, is that it's really easy to use. With just your feet, you can set the tap tempo, record a loop, then play over it, either recording or not. If you record a second loop over your first and don't like it, you can erase the most recent loop, again just with your feet. The one thing that this pedal doesn't feature that I would have liked is stereo outs--for that you have to upgrade to the RC-50, but that's way more pedal than I really need.

5THE best affordable looping pedal.  Sep 13, 2010 By T. Blackburn
If you're looking for a good quality looping pedal which is well built and has many useful functions, look no further! I bought this for practice but mainly for creating and performing on stage, with guitar and vocal loops. This pedal has excelled, and really boosted my performance, and my stage confidence. High quality, remarkable easy to get loops in time (hard on some other loopers), and with minimal change to the input sound, this also integrates a host of great functions including undo/redo capability, a fade out option, and another pedal input slot for switching between pre-recorded phrases (which admittedly I don't use). It also has a cool reverse effect if you want to sound like the Beatles circa 1966!

The pedal is learnable quickly without the manual (although the manual is excellent), and lasts a fair while on 6 AA batteries. Its more intuitive and comfortable than its more basic predecessor the Boss RC-2, simply because of the extra stop pedal and the clearer interface among other things. Seriously, buy this thing and you won't be disappointed.

4review Boss RC-20XL  Oct 19, 2010 By REH
I perform monthly in a classy bar plus solo gigs on occasion. This pedal allows my solo gigs to shine as I can fill in some leads. However, it's not a simple deal to find the tempo (my tapping tends to be slow) so I have to practice with the unit more to accomplish. Also, turns out my tempo varies a lot (personal problem) so the metronome will help. I do wish it had more than 8 'sounds' for the metronome (4 of which are silly with pings and clings)....But buying through Amazon was great - and I got the unit for $50 less than other Amazon vendors offered it.

5It's the Swiss army knife of pedals  May 07, 2011 By T. Heiss "Gas Money"
This pedal has a lot of cool features and is worth saving instead of going cheap on the RC2.

First off, you can use it as a metronome. There are various sounds that keep the tempo and time signature although only about two are bearable. The metronome "tempo" volume is loud, 12:00 is blaring loud. Be sure your amp is on low volume. Once the tempo is set and you hit record, it will count off for you. You can turn off the tempo vol. and have a perfectly timed phrase. I believe it is quantized.
It's a great tool for banking ideas. I always forget those cool fast riffs so I like to record it on the loop and later output my phrases to the computer and free up the memory slots for more ideas. You can write a phrase to multiple bank slots and then save alternative dubs over each one. You could record yourself playing with the band (up to 16 minutes) and later recall it to hear how you actually sounded as a solo instrument. Real eye opener.
The AUX in is nice even though you could do the same thing with the instrument in. I like that I can plug in a generic footswitch to work the phrase switcher. You could have part 1 in slot 1, switch to part 2 in slot 2, part 3, etc.

The reverse is really cool once you work with it. Play a rhythm, reverse it, learn it reversed, rerecord the new rhythm, dub a solo, unreverse... you got yourself a logical yet psychedelic reverse solo. Also a cool trick is to record a note with a lot of sustain until it fades out and reverse it. Then you can use that ambient/ mode-ambiguous base note to improvise around.

It's mono in and mono out which is becoming a problem for me. I go from guitar to stereo chorus, outA to ampA, outB to RC20 to ampB. Amp A doesn't get the loop signal and I turn up the "level" knob on the RC20 to compensate. The rc50 is stereo but is not a good use of floor space.

There's a ton this thing can do and you really have to read the manual (which is on the website) to fully understand it.

I find that the pedal does mess with the tone quite a bit. It sounds more muffled and slightly distorted. I've had no timing issues and I play live. You have to watch when and where you actually start and finish a loop as you might accidentally record the extra frills twice.

4a couple problems  Nov 04, 2011 By messexplosion
I like this product, and still haven't fully explored all it's functions. I have found the built in drum guide is really REALLY loud. Even when turned to the minimum volume I often find it too loud and overpowering. The 8 different drum beats are uninteresting. You can not program in the beats per minute, you have to pedal stomp it in, or button tap it in. That's a bit of a drag. The phrase recording works well and easily. I use this pedal all the time, especially to practice.
