Don't Buy This! Feb 20, 2012
By Zvbosch First and foremost, I am not a boutique only, high strung guitarist. I like tones that I like; I'm simple that way. This pedal, however, sounds absolutely terrible. I have a Bugera V22 amp which has an alright gain channel (I actually quite like it) and its gain channel blows this pedal out of the water. I had a DS-1 for a little while but I returned it because it was only ok, but this pedal is far worse than that. I have a Rat 2 right now, which I love, and for about $30 more it is such a better deal. So why is it bad? Well, I had my amp's volume on 4 (which is actually pretty loud) and right when I turned the Cool Cat on it turned the volume way too high! I thought my Rat 2 added a lot of volume, but it was nothing compared to this crazy-buzzing-sounds-like-speakers-are-going-to-explode sound. So I turned my amps volume way down and it sounded the same, just quieter. After fooling around with it after a while I realized that if I didn't use a pick the sound became bearable. I tried everything with this pedal, tried to like it because everyone was raving how it sounded like an OCD, but it just doesn't. But I will give it two stars for being somewhat usable if you don't use a pick and set it just right.
Buzzy and unappealing Aug 19, 2011

This pedal was very inexpensive and is built like a tank. That said the distortion it produces is buzzy and useless to me. I've tried it with 5 different amps: tube, solid state, small, and large. To me, I don't think it sounds particularly good on any of them. Danelectro makes some great pedals that would be a bargain at twice the price but this one doesn't have much going for it other than it's price and construction. Only buy this if you can't afford any better options.

GREAT PEDAL! Sep 13, 2009
By JRG This pedal has a great sound for a great deal. If you adjust the tone settings on treble you can get high pitched wailing sounds and, with it on bass you can get fuzzy deep blusey sounds (so deep it rattled my ten watts sound plate) . The body is much more chunky then the picture implies and is sturdy enough to last a pretty long time . The pedal also has true bypass ( a clean pedal-guitar-amplifier connection) and is supposed to replicate a tube amp (most professionals use tub amps only) sound, which it does pretty well. This is my first pedal but I have tried a few and this works pretty great. Overall this is a great addition to any pedal chain. The only reason that it is rated four stars is because the switch is a little hard to operate (which can be a good thing).
