Great sound for the money. Jun 17, 2010

Many years ago I had all of my equipment stolen out of my van. I lost my Peavey Mace amp with JBL speakers, my '68 Les Paul Gold Top, and a road case containing all of my effects, cords and microphones. I had to play an important show two nights later. I had several other guitars, I had a back up amp but I didn't have a back up microphone or effects for my guitar. I had been using an Ibanez TS-9 for distortion and an Ibanez Chorus (I know some will say that the Peavey Mace had a built in Chorus but mine was an original that had a vibrato/tremelo, Chorus replaced it on later modals). I scraped together about $200.00 and went to my favorite music store. I found they no longer made the TS-9 so I had to settle for a TS-10 for about $35.00 (I like it even better than the TS-9 and still use it). After buying some new guitar cables and a Shure SM-58 I had very little money left. A new Ibanez chorus was about $40-50.00 and I just didn't have it. There was this Rocktek for $19.99. I bought it without listening to it and took it to the gig the next night. I ended up used this Rocktek for several years until I went to an Ibanez programmable multi-effects unit and later a BOSS ME-30 programmable unit. After 15 years using the programmable efects I realized that I was liveing with a series of compromises. The distortion (TS 10 variety) and Chorus on my Ibanez unit was great, but the reverb and delay were not. The Reverb, delay and chorus on the BOSS unit was ok but the distortions were thin and limp better suited for metal and grunge than classic rock.
Just recently I pulled out the box effects pedals I have collected over the years and built a small pedal board with just the classic effects that I really like. I had several Chorus pedals (Boss, Ibanez)and I chose this cheap Rocktek. There is a setting I marked years ago with magic marker that is just perfect for the music I play. I really like this pedal. The battery compartment cover falls off all the time but I am going to glue it permanently into place since the pedal board is AC powered. The sound is very clean and clear. At higher levels (above 12:00 on the depth and rate) it gets very "flanger" like (and not in a good way). But for a nice warm low level chorus (Eagles even low level Police like) this is a really nice sound. (I have a standard setting: Tone 2:00, Depth 12:00, and Rate: 9:30-10:00. I highly recommend this pedal.
