5Boss is boss  May 11, 2006 By Rob Ring
I've had my Boss Metal Zone for about 15 years and have never had any issues with it. It's an incredibly versatile distortion pedal (whether you're playing Thrash-metal or Brit-pop). I've used other (cheaper) fuzz-boxes etc, but I always come back to the Boss. Well worth the money.

5One of the greatest distortion pedals ever  Jun 17, 2009 By J. Nielsen "nehevea"
Note that this pedal is meant to be used with an amp that is on a clean setting. The pedal is meant for playing metal (like Metallica), or metal-ish punk rock (like Pennywise, Strung Out, The Offspring). It does this very well. If you don't want to buy a tube amp like a Peavey 6505 or a Mesa Boogie, this pedal will get you pretty close for far less money. Of course nothing is better than a real tube amp, but this pedal is pretty cool. I combine mine with a $400 65-watt solid state amp and I love it. The EQ is very flexible, letting you dial in just about any sound you could want. The gain is adjustable too, so you can dial in more of a standard rock sound if you want. Boss pedals are extremely well built, known for lasting typically 10 to 20 years, or even more. And that's with regularly being used all the time.

I also have a Boss CH-1 Super Chorus and I put the pedals right next to each other. I can step on both at the same time and instantly switch from heavy metal distortion to a beautiful clean sound with chorus (a la Metallica), and then back.

5Very useful pedal to have.  Apr 10, 2010 By From Detroit
I have a lot of pedals... In fact, I have 2 distortion and 2 overdrive pedals (though only the MT2 and the OD3 are regularly in my rig.) This pedal won't give you a "cranked up tube stack" sound. No... Instead, it's very edgy and smooth as can be. It has a mid-sweep knob on it to help sculpt your tone. I usually use it as a mid-boost for solos. You'll find that you get amazing sustain and a huge sound that you won't be able to replicate (easily... I'm sure the huge Boss distortion box comes close, but for the price...) with any other pedal.

5A great addition to any effects collection.  Mar 16, 2009 By Plague11
This pedal delivers what it promises - Metal! The versatility and sound quality make this pedal a must-have for anyone playing on the heavier side. Combined with typical Boss bullet-proof construction and reliability, I would highly recommend this to anyone looking to add awesome crunch to any setup.

This foot pedal it's beyond of what i expected of it, it's amazing super heavy and you can play with it what ever way you wan't. Completly easy to use i recomend it to any one willing to expand he's musical horizons and be heavier in what he or she plays.
