Pretty cool, surprisingly tough Nov 18, 2011

I bought a group of low cost effects from Amazon and this one stood out for quality; the case is metal, as are the connection ports, and adjustments can be made without a lot of noise. True bypass, so I leave it on the rack all the time though I seldom use it. Speaking of seldom using, the hard tremolo (on/off) is a bit harsh for my taste, but could be useful someday. For the cost of the unit (I paid well under $30)the hard option does no harm in being there. The rate and depth knobs are in the front so they are more trouble to adjust than top mounted knobs, but this keeps the unit small and I don't really change them much at all.

Definitely not perfect. I have no idea who thought it was a good idea to put the jacks and knobs all on the same side. It's such a dumb design because it makes fitting into a pedal board a lot harder than it should be, while at the same time making on-the-fly adjustments a total bitch. You'd think they could fit knobs on top of the thing but even the adapter jack is on the same side.
But it sounds lovely to my ears, no real coloration, just a throbbing volume change that can lend an extremely subtle element to your basic tone. It can also do a spot-on rendition of Boulevard of Broken Dreams, in case you are in a cover band/have no shame or taste. It's great for nailing a rockabilly vibe, or weirdo 80's punk like The Cramps.
Can't really complain for under fifty dollars, plus the range of the speed knob goes from un-musically slow to tantalizingly close to ring modulation when maxed out. And while it may not have the same vibe as an old tube tremolo from an amp, it's got true-bypass, metal housing, an LED, and a switch between square or sine waves. Definitely a contender against any other cheap tremolo pedal, and some expensive ones, in terms of tone and options.

It seems as though it is difficult to find tremelo on a present-day guitar amp, and just try to find it on a bass amp! The Danelectro CT1 Cool Cat Tremelo Pedal creates an easily controllable tremolo that sounds reasonably like that on the old tube guitar amps of the 1950s and 1960s. Like Danelectro's other effects pedals in this series, the body has a very solid feel -- it's metal. The controls allow for a wide range of depth of temelo and speed of the tremelo. At first, I wasn't sure to what extent the middle switch on the pedal -- hard/soft -- would be something that I would use. However, the hard setting completely cuts the signal in between the pulses for a very interesting sequencer-like effect that, while non-traditional, might have a place in some styles. This, like Danelectro's other pedals in the series, also has a true, direct, pass through when the pedal is turned off. Highly recommended!
Best tremolo for a budget rig. May 30, 2011

I was looking for a simple tremolo with a sine wave and square wave setting. This is absolutely the best one I came across that was in my budget. Trem sounds great and there is no volume loss. True bypass is a plus. Solid metal housing. The only downside, at least for me is the placement of the in/out jacks and the dc adaptor jack; too close together, but it's ok.
If your looking for a tremolo with a surfer/ spy mivue vibe, or just want to warm up your sound with some slow swells, this is the one for you.

This pedal is an amazing deal. The sound is awesome and rich, true bypass, metal construction. The hard setting is rad for lots of drive/distortion when the speed is cranked almost all the way. Plenty of room to play around with the settings.
Why go for the more expensive boss for a standard trem?
