Elixir Strings are covered with an ultra-thin, space-age polymer tube that contacts the string on the tops of the windings only. This leaves the all-important winding-to-winding-to-core space free from the fear of the enemies of tone! Most players report that Elixir Strings keep sounding great three to five times longer than ordinary strings. Gauges: 009, 020, 013, 010, 009 | | | |

By Fire Ball Mail These strings sound good, feel very smooth and have less friction as you move over the fretboard. Some people I know swear by them. Definitely worth checking out.

By D. Earls Elixirs are more expensive than other banjo strings. If their claims of lasting 3-5 times longer than others are true these things are really a steal.
But you don't buy strings because they last a long time. You buy them for tone. On my 10-year old Deering Goodtime, they make a rich, full tone (think gold instead of silver), they fret with a lot less scratching, and they hold their tuning better than other strings I've tried.

When a friend first suggested Elixir strings for my guitar several years ago, I balked. They cost two or three times what I was used to paying, but he talked me into it. I've never looked back. They sound better, last longer, are more playable and resist rust far better than any other strings I've used, and I used to go through a set or two a month in my club playing days. I wish these had existed then, because I would have probably saved money in the long run. When I decided to pick up my five-string again after years of neglect, I went directly to Elixir, and I love these strings. I'm thinking of treating my mandolin to a set next. They're well worth the price. RW The Tao Of Writing: Imagine. Create. Flow.
