These ear plugs are not designed to zero out the sound of jackhammers and jet engines. They are designed to reduce the ear-splitting high and loud notes at a concert or disco to a level where they will not damage your ear drums.
And they do that perfectly. I can dance next to the speakers all night long and then when I leave the club I can pull out the earplugs and hear perfectly well while my friends need a day to recover their hearing.
Yeah, the plastic container that they provide with the earplugs is pretty crappy, but you don't have to use it. That's not a good reason to avoid this product.

I live in an apt off the freeway and these little babies take out to the country. They work very well. I also fly with them and they keep out all the baby crying, flight attendant yaking, and engine whinning. You can't do better than these.

I work in a live band venue and I was hoping these earplugs might help, but they are useless. They are impossible to insert properly and must be removed every time a customer speaks, if you want to be able to actually hear them. The cheap foam plugs insert better, remove easily and all around work better.

Curiously, the Amazon search page image for this product is different than what the actual product page displays. I had a pair of the black plastic rock 'n roll series plugs. They are made of a thin plastic/rubber compound, which makes them washable and thus reusable. Except for one problem. There is a stem in the middle of the plugs to help insert them into and pull them out of the ear. That stem broke on my other plug the second time I ever used it, rendering the plug unusable. I also found that the plugs were difficult to "balance", that is, get the same amount of sound filtering in each ear. That could, of course, be an anatomical issue. In any case, I would recommend some other type of plug for concert-goers.

Best ear plugs for sleeping. They are so easy to insert, very comvertable and I can't hear my noisy neighbors anymore. The only trick that I had to do was remove the tiny insert sticks that came with them. Otherwise they hurt and bruised my ear canal. Instead of those sticks I used a Q-tip with the cotton removed. This way, once they are inserted, I removed the Q-tip and the tiny soft rubber earplugs were absolutely perfect. Now, I fall asleep immediately and get my 8 hours.
