The LP Pro Shekere is based upon the ground shape of natural shekeres and developed with the help of LP endorser / professional percussionists Roger Squitero. Constructed of a durable white fiberglass body and wrapped with a lattice of Jenigor plastic beads makes this the most durable and dependable shekere ever made. The large fiberglass body, thick neck and wide mouth produce loud, high-pitched shaker and rattle sounds and extremely low bass tones when struck on the bottom.

3Large, heavy & takes a while to break in  Jul 08, 2009 By Biffybeans
I have a love hate relationship with this LP shekere. I love it because it was the one that started me playing shekere and the sound is wonderful, but hate due to some of the design elements.

I've had two of these, and on each model the rubber ring on the mouth wasn't securely attached. The beads/netting on these arrives extremely tight. It can't really be played like that. You have to pull & stretch it so the beads move more freely and quite frankly, that's a pain in the butt. Once you finally get it where you want it, it will continue to stretch as you play, and though you can tighten it again at the top, it may eventually become too loose. I also had issues where rows of netting would come untied from the bottom and I felt like I was always having to re-tie them.

This is a large instrument and it's not exactly light. (Though it is made of fiberglass) My Meinl Fiberglass Shekere is lighter, but there is a difference in sound. The LP has a VERY loud crisp sound while the Meinl is fuller and a bit more difficult to play because of it's fullness.

My first LP shekere suffered a number of cracks in the body though it was never dropped. This isn't exactly an inexpensive item and I would have expected it to hold up a little bit better than it did.

Right now it's sitting unused because I'm tired of trying to stretch the netting, and so my Meinl has been seeing a lot more action these days.

Last note - the LP is really difficult to pack. I can put it in a standard sized backpack, but can't get anything else in with it. (comfortably) I can pack the Meinl with a large set of maracas, a tambourine and a jam block...

3LP Shekere  Nov 29, 2010 By Raymond
This Shekere is strong due to its fiberglass shell but, the plastic beads aren't enough for traditional sound. It is far from sounding like a traditional Shekere that is of a natural gourd and has real glass beads that definitely make a big difference. And its bass tones are weak. Other than that it will make good as a 2nd or 3rd voice Shekere.
