The first manufacturer to apply the concept of a round striking surface to drumstick design, Vic developed the other originals that complete the line with jazz players in mind. The SD1s are turned from select rock maple for a light, fast-playing stick with great flex and rebound. The Custom line is perfect for the artist who is playing lighter types of music, or prefers a beefier stick without a lot of weight. | | | |

Good all around stick May 09, 2009
By Drums4Life Contrary to the name (SD1), the stick is not limited to the snare drum. While the sticks play well on the snare drum, producing particularly full buzz rolls, I prefer to use these sticks to play my drumset; because they are incredibly durable (I've used one pair for six years, playing at least an hour a week).
PROS:
Durable Good value Produce full sounding buzz rolls Grip is flawless
CONS:
A bit heavy for snare drum sticks Difficult to play softly (due to the weight)

Great item and a great deal! :D Feb 16, 2011
By S.T. Almost all of our local school band and instrument instructors recommend this specific brand & model of sticks for drummers. I did my research with them on this . . . as well as website recommendations. These are a great buy!! Our local instrument stores charge much higher for these exact sticks. I bought my son has a pair for school and a pair for home use. :)

Just what he needed Dec 09, 2010
By NotHappy My sons band teacher required they have this brand of drum sticks. So glad I found them at a great price!! Marine Corps family living in Japan.
SD1 a good stick but they break easily May 10, 2012
By kirklandish I have large hands so smaller sticks feel really uncomfortable. I want to play with some nuance I don't want to play with really heavy sticks.
I really like the diameter and light feel of these sticks. I'm not as crazy about the round tip on cymbals, but they are incredible on the toms.
That said I have broken so many pairs of these sticks. I once broke three sticks in an 1 1/2 rehearsal with my band. I'm not the hardest hitter and I rarely do rim shots. My techniques is average so that might have something to do with it.
I'm think of switching over to using the 2B hickory sticks which have the same diameter, but are supposedly more durable.
Great Sticks Jan 31, 2012
By T. Gilbert Can't go wrong with Vic Firth drum sticks. My son needed these for his middle school band class. They have worked out very well for him so far.
